JJ’s D.I.Y. Elphaba Costume

I decided last minute to participate this year for Halloween and dress up at my job. I work with food so I wanted something I could cook comfortably in all day and not feel like I was suffocating in some crazy costume. I’m not vey creative either and have no budget for this kind of stuff. It’s the day of Halloween and I have to be at work in a few hours, so I had to find whatever I needed at the drug store down the street. The shelves were pretty empty but I managed to find the most important items for my homemade DIY costume.

The idea for my costume popped in my head the night before Halloween. I guess my muses were whispering to me because I started dreaming of the play Wicked and how much I loved it and how much I loved Elphaba’s character. She is a beautiful green witch with a hippie soul who has always been misunderstood and mistreated. I wanted to be her for Halloween!

I went through all the things I had at home and could use to make my costume fun yet still simple and quick. I had a cute hippie-ish black dress, some green tights (not sure why I had those) and some old boots!  The key ingredient for my costume was green body paint and I guess it was meant to be because I actually found tubes of it at the drug store for half price! I bought like four tubes because I wasn’t sure how many I would need. I didn’t even use a whole tube so next year I believe I will bring Elphie back!

Here’s a few photos of me and my costume. And a few photos I used for inspiration…
